Held biennially in Shanghai, China, this event serves as a crucial gathering point for professionals in the construction sector, including manufacturers, suppliers, contractors, and engineers.
“All the key Asian players active in the industry segment are either present or represented,” clarifies David Ma, Business Development Manager EMEA/APAC/AMER. “Especially those from China, Japan, and Korea.” Throughout the four-day event in Shanghai, Asian manufacturers unveil significant new product launches. “In short: it is the most important fair for construction machinery.”
“We attend the event to connect with Asian parties,” Ma indicates. “We are there to meet existing contacts and forge new relationships.” Broekman Logistics aims to showcase to the market in the Chinese port city what an operational collaboration might look like in the Netherlands for Asian manufacturers. “It’s really about networking with key entrepreneurs to assist them in the Dutch and European markets. And we demonstrate that our company has proven to be a very important support base for Asian suppliers.”
Referring to the Business Development Manager, a first commercial introduction to Europe for producers from Asia is often a “struggle.” “They are looking for a partner who can bridge cultural differences. They don’t need to rent their own location or hire their own staff; we can manage all that for them.” This, along with the fact that Broekman Logistics has experience in handling the bureaucratic processes involved in international collaboration, such as fiscal representation. “We are essentially a one-stop-shop for their logistics. From freight forwarding to warehousing to the entire customs process.”
Over the past decades, Asian producers have shifted their operations, Ma observes. “This transition began in Japan, then you saw it in Korea, and now in China. It’s no longer the case that production only happens in those countries, but as our longstanding collaboration with Kubota shows, performing technical assembly here for products destined for the European market works very well.”
And not without reason: it costs a lot of money to ship fully assembled products to Europe, aside from the fact that as a manufacturer, you also want to be able to respond quickly and proactively to local developments in various European countries. “We have a large stock of parts and can assemble machines, paint them, and handle distribution. We can supplement this with local customer services and maintaining a stock of spare parts.”
Ma emphasizes that Broekman Logistics’ distinctive capability lies in nurturing long-term partnerships and continuously reinventing to meet future needs of customers in their highly specialised markets. “This offers advantages to the customer compared to working with global multinationals. We can switch gears quickly, we’re flexible. I always say: Broekman Logistics is a company that looks beyond logistics alone.”
